 Istanbul At A Glance

 Istanbul is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Located on two separate continents, Europe and Asia, it is a wealth of amazing features, both naturally occurring, and those that have been constructed by man throughout its long and colourful history. İstanbul was for a long time the capital of the civilised world, and as such was, and still is, a very important industrial and cultural centre.

     Though Istanbul is not Turkey's capital, it is the country's largest, and most visited city. There have been a number of different civilisations in residence here over the centuries, and this is easily recognised in the diversity of the city's architecture. Both Christianity and the Islamic religion have played very large parts in Istanbul's development, with numerous churches and Mosques scattered throughout the city.

     The Sultanahmet district, Istanbul's old city, is still surrounded by much of the original city wall. Many of the city's hotels are located within this area, along with a lot of the main attractions, such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace.

     Istanbul is a tourist's dream, it posesses such amazing culture and history, and plenty of shopping opportunities tabut. It does have many of the characteristics of other large cities though, it can be crowded and seem a bit dirty. It is still very beautiful though, the rolling hills upon which the city has been built make it an awesome sight to behold, especially at night time when all the lights of the city are ablaze.

     Accommodation ranges from budget pensions, to very high quality hotels, with a quite a few special class hotels also available. There truly is something for everybody here, and it is a unique city which really should not be missed.
